In 1999 we attended a Good Friday ‘Stations of the Cross’ service. We stood before each station represented by one of Chris Senior’s superb drawings. Richard gave some background to the station, we said prayers, sang a verse of a hymn and moved on. Apart from the prayers and our singing we were like onlookers trying to get close yet remote from those events 2000 years ago.

I wrote this poem whilst on holiday in Newquay in the early 1960s. It was mislaid/forgotten until June 2025 when Marjory found it in some old papers. memories returned and I initially recall walking along a coastal path with notepad and pencil initially inspired by the sound of the tide. There is creation as recorded in Genesis the first book of the Bible. Many believe it literally. Others using archaeological evidence which pointed to the earth being billions of years old and life’s long period of evolution discrediting the seven day creation story. They even imply from this that there is no God
